Harassment Online

How are First Amendment rights affecting the way you game? In today's blog post I will be responding to an article published by the Boston Globe and written by John R. Ellement. If you would like to check out the article you can click here. Everyday we hear about people being harassed online, whether those be guys or girls it seems that everyone is affected and targeted. However it seems as though the gaming world sees more harassment of women. Women are obviously not the first ones you might think of as gamers, but at the same time why is it so wrong that women are being harassed in this world? Women should not be targeted just because of their gender in an online community.

The case also comes about your First Amendment rights online. It is hard to determine exactly what is right and wrong, however if someone is actually being harmed or threatened I think that would determine it time to take some action. You cannot just say whatever you please online. Many people feel much more comfortable online saying whatever it is they please and say many things they wouldn't even think about saying in person. This is something that clearly needs to stop and make an end. I would predict in the future there will be plenty more cases similar to the article above. It is sad but true as well all move toward online for communication.

Let me know what you think will happen in the future! More cases like this or will people eventually wake up? Let me know in the comments below!
